Booklovers, sports enthusiasts and foodies will be in for a treat from 16 to 22 July when Hong Kong’s beloved book, snack and sports fairs make their much-anticipated return to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), this summer extravaganza promises to captivate visitors of all ages, offering an exciting blend of literature, tasty delights and athletic inspiration.
Book sales, author talks, art exhibition
A cornerstone on Hong Kong’s mega events calendar, the Book Fair is expected to draw crowds of avid readers keen to explore the latest releases, pick up a bargain or meet their favourite authors.
Exhibitors will include local and international publishers, book retailers, distributors and stationery suppliers, with many offering special promotions only available at the fair.
From fiction and biography to history, children’s books, travel and philosophy, books in both Chinese and English will be on show, ensuring something for every literary taste.
As in past years, book sales will be accompanied by a lively programme of author talks, discussion panels and cultural activities. An on-site exhibition will display art and cultural works from more than 20 countries and regions, including France, Hungary, Korea and Spain.
Tasty bites, fun fitness
Running alongside the Book Fair, World of Snacks will be certain to delight gourmands and novices alike. The event will feature an enticing selection of favourites – from confectionery, chips and cookies to wholesome treats for health-conscious visitors including natural snacks.
Apart from Hong Kong snacks such as black sesame ice cream and unique varieties of egg rolls, flavours from across the world are eagerly expected, such as shrimp flavoured popcorn from Thailand, crispy seaweed from Japan and Indonesian cold brew coffee, provide a culinary journey for fairgoers’ tastebuds.
Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo will present a wide variety of sports and fitness activities such as camping and hiking, water sports, yoga, ball games, cycling and more.
Beyond athletics, the expo will also celebrate leisure activities and hobbies including music, arts and design, photography, board games, handicrafts and DIY projects.
Visitors can enjoy all three events with a single ticket from Wednesday 16 to Tuesday 22 July.
In 2024, the mega event drew more than 990,000 visits over a seven-day period, including many coming from nearby cities.
Book Fair visitors spent more than HK$900 each on average, with some stocking up on a year’s worth of reading in a single day.
For those on the hunt for the perfect summer read, excited to try mouthwatering treats or looking to experience a new sport, this vibrant celebration of culture and creativity is not to be missed!
