The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is set to keep the summer spirit alive with a vibrant lineup of five major fairs at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre this August, promising a dazzling display of international food and lifestyle products for residents and visitors.
From 14 to 18 August, the Food Expo, Beauty & Wellness Expo and Home Delights Expo will feature some 1,8900 exhibitors presenting gourmet food, lifestyle products and wellness innovations from around the globe.
Running concurrently from 14 to 16 August, Food Expo PRO and the Hong Kong International Tea Fair will cater to trade professionals, offering a platform for sourcing, networking and industry dialogue.
In addition, the International Conference of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine and Health Products will be held on 14 and 15 August, offering industry professionals the latest insights into Chinese medicine.
A total of 45 pavilions will spotlight exhibitors from 35 countries and regions plus Mainland China provinces, creating a truly global showcase. Brazil, Mongolia and Zimbabwe will make their debut appearances, joining a mix that includes nine ASEAN countries, as well as Macao, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Poland and Sri Lanka.
Technology, halal-certification and coffee on agenda
For trade buyers, exhibitors at Food Expo PRO will present the latest food products, services and technologies. The Food Science and Technology zone will highlight health-focused and future foods tailored for the silver economy, such as soft-texture mooncakes and cognitive health supplements. Seminars will explore the development of additive-free foods and discuss progress towards a “Clean Label” standard.
A highlight will be a focus on halal foods and beverages with more than 120 exhibitors from Mainland China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and beyond showcasing premium halal-certified products. An expert from Kowloon Shangri-La hotel, the first in Hong Kong to be accredited as a Level 5 Muslim-Friendly Accommodation, will share insights into halal sourcing strategies and discuss the opportunities unlocked through certification.
Another highpoint will be the debut of a Coffee Zone featuring coffee products, accessories and machines from various countries and regions including China’s leading coffee bean producer Yunnan province. On 16 August, the Hong Kong Specialty Coffee Association will hold a tasting competition to spotlight regional flavour differences.
Tea inspirations, celebrity tips
From 14 to 16 August, the Hong Kong International Tea Fair will welcome both trade buyers and the public, featuring a wide selection of tea varieties, new blends and innovative tea-inspired beverages such as sparkling tea, champagne tea and ice wine tea. Tea ware, snacks and wellness products such as perfumes will also be on show. The fair’s best tea products will be announced as part of the Hong Kong International Tea Competition with the winning products available for free tastings on 16 August. Other events will include an art exhibition and a design competition for spaces in which to serve tea.
The Food Expo will be a treat for the tastebuds with thousands of food and beverage items on show, ranging from fine dining and gourmet cuisine to everyday snacks and indulgent desserts. 10 celebrity chefs will perform cooking demonstrations using premium ingredients sponsored by brands in the Premium Food zone, while a pavilion organised by the mainland departments of agriculture and rural affairs will showcase specialities from 13 provinces, highlighting the country’s rich agriculture diversity.
Featuring premium skincare, haircare, health supplements and slimming products, this year’s Beauty and Wellness Expo will mount a new Scent-sation zone dedicated to perfumes and aromatherapy, while the Body-Mind-Spirit zone will offer stress-relief products and services, including complimentary eyebrow trims, manicures and hairdressing services for fair visitors.
Premium furniture, kitchen appliances, bedding and home technology will be displayed at the Home Delights Expo including the latest innovations such as a steam washing machine from Towngas and the launch of Thermomix’s latest multifunctional kitchen appliance which combines 30 appliances in the one unit.
Each day of the fairs will have a special theme supported by seminars, talks and demonstrations. On 14 August, there will be focus on tea, followed by cultural heritage on 15 August, Asian delights on 16 August, wellness for all ages on 17 August and local Hong Kong cuisine on the final day.
